How Can I Participate?

Career Development Events (CDE)       

Events designed to help members prepare for a career in agriculture by testing and challenging the student's technical, leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills as well as their knowledge of the subject matter.

Examples: Horse Judging, Livestock Judging, Vet Science, Poultry Judging, Meat Judging

Leadership Development Events (LDE)       
Events that focus on creating situations for members to demonstrate their abilities in public speaking, decision making, communication and their knowledge of agriculture and the FFA organization.

Examples: Creed Speaking, Job Interview, Public Relations, Radio Broadcasting, Quiz Team

Speaking Development Events (SDE)       
Events designed to develop the ability of all FFA members to express themselves on a given subject.

Examples: Prepared Public Speaking, Extemporaneous, and Soil Stewardship

Agriscience Fair       
Students use the scientific process as they reinforce skills and principles they have learned in agriscience courses. They conduct research projects and prepare a scientific report and display for judging at the state level.

Examples: Animal Science, Plant Science, Social Systems, Environmental Services/Natural Resources

Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE)
SAEs provide a method in agricultural education for students to receive real-world career experiences in an area of agriculture that they are most interested in. Supervised Agricultural Experiences are an important component of agricultural education and are required element of all Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (AFNR) courses as explained by the Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 130, Subchapter A. The four SAE categories are: Foundational, Entrepreneurship, Placement Paid/Unpaid, and Research.

Examples: Foundational, Paid Placement, Unpaid Placement, Entrepreneurship, Research, School Based
